2025 AFCON qualifiers: Where will Libya host Nigeria

Libya’s national football team, the Knights, have selected the Martyrs of Benina Stadium as the venue for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The showdown, scheduled for Tuesday, 15th October, will take place in Benina, a town located 19 kilometers outside Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city.

The 10,000-capacity stadium, which was formerly known as Hugo Chávez Stadium, features an artificial pitch—a surface that the Nigerian team may not be entirely familiar with. This could present a unique challenge for the Super Eagles as they look to secure their AFCON 2025 qualification.

Nigeria currently sits at the top of Group D, having accumulated four points from two matches. They started their campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, followed by a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali.

Meanwhile, Libya is at the bottom of the group with only one point. They drew 1-1 at home against Rwanda and lost narrowly, 2-1, to Benin Republic in Abidjan.

Before the clash in Libya, the Super Eagles will first host the Knights in Uyo on Friday, 11th October, at 5 pm Nigerian time. The return leg in Benina will take place four days later on the artificial pitch, with kickoff set for 8 pm Nigerian time.

Libya will be eager to capitalize on their home advantage to revive their qualification hopes, while Nigeria will aim to maintain their strong form and edge closer to securing a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
