2025 FIFA Club World Cup qualification update and cash reward
The UEFA Champions League quarterfinals have concluded, determining the European starters for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
The tournament, scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, will likely occur on the East Coast, coinciding with the Concacaf Gold Cup on the West Coast.
Despite the strain on national team players with overlapping schedules, clubs are anticipated to benefit from the substantial prize money, with reports suggesting a total prize pool of €2.5 billion, providing clubs with significant financial incentives.
Each club is set to earn no less than €50m.
With Barcelona out of the running, Atlético Madrid secured qualification via the UEFA four-year coefficient standings, becoming the second team from Spain alongside Real Madrid to qualify. Only two clubs per country, excluding the hosts, can qualify for the tournament.
The path to the Club World Cup has been cleared for Red Bull Salzburg, who will qualify via the coefficient standings as the four UCL semi-finalists have already secured their spots for the World Cup.
In total, 23 of the 32 spots at the Club World Cup have been determined, with Europe receiving 12 starters. Chelsea and Manchester City represent England as Champions League winners in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
The United States will have up to three starters, with Seattle Sounders and potentially Philadelphia Union qualifying via the Concacaf Champions League and the four-year coefficient standings, respectively. The third starter for the United States, as the host country, is yet to be determined.
