Rosberg delight at Singapore win
Nico Rosberg was delighted after winning the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday to record his third successive win and leapfrog Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the race for the title.
Rosberg qualified on pole and, after making a fast start, controlled the race from the front despite late pressure from Daniel Ricciardo, who produced a valiant drive in his Red Bull to finish second.
With braking issues affecting his performance, defending champion Hamilton could not improve on his qualifying position of third, leaving Rosberg eight points clear of his colleague in the standings.
“It’s been an awesome weekend in Singapore for me,” Rosberg said in his podium interview.
“Of course Daniel tried to pull one on me at the end but we managed to hold him off – I’m really, really happy.
“I couldn’t come in at the same time as Daniel because I was in traffic.
“The whole car was on the edge, it always is in Singapore.
“It’s all the more satisfying with a race like that.”
