2nd Niger Delta Games: A Complete Round-Up of Athletics Medallists

Athletics events at the 2nd Niger Delta Games ended on a high note ahead of today’s closing ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
After days of competition, Delta State finished with the highest number of medals in athletics. The state dominated many events on the track and in the field.
Relays
In the 4x100m mixed relay, Bayelsa won gold, Akwa Ibom took silver and Delta claimed bronze.
In the 4x400m mixed relay, Akwa Ibom won gold, Edo finished with silver and Delta took bronze.
Sprints
In the men’s 100m, Chibueze Osama (Delta) won gold, Gift Bright (Akwa Ibom) took silver and Saturday Godswill (Delta) claimed bronze.

Osama also won gold in the men’s 200m. Gift Bright again finished with silver, while Martias Iwara (Cross River) took bronze.
In the women’s 100m, Peter Ejiro (Delta) won gold. Tejiri Ugoh (Edo) claimed silver and Victory Imoisemeh (Edo) took bronze.

Peter Ejiro also won gold in the women’s 200m, making it two sprint titles. Tejiri Ugoh finished with silver again, while Faith Chukwuma (Delta) secured bronze.
Peter Ejiro was one of the most successful athletes of the Games, winning two gold medals and one bronze.
400m Events
In the men’s 400m, David Udoh (Akwa Ibom) won gold. Chidiebere Chigozie (Rivers) took silver and Mumuni Sanni (Edo) won bronze.

In the women’s 400m, Okereke Treasure (Delta) won gold. Jecinter Lawrence (Akwa Ibom) took silver and Siviana Ossai (Delta) claimed bronze.
Middle and Long Distance
In the men’s 800m, Solomon Okundaye (Edo) won gold, Samson Teibowei (Bayelsa) took silver and Owolabi Timileyin (Ondo) claimed bronze.

In the women’s 800m, Hephzibah Okon (Akwa Ibom) won gold, Godsmind Eteng (Cross River) finished with silver and Anochie Rejoice (Delta) took bronze.
Cross River’s Asuquo Emmanuel was outstanding in the distance races. He won gold in both the men’s 1500m and 5000m.
In the men’s 1500m, Asuquo Emmanuel won gold, Samson Teibowei took silver and John Gideon (Akwa Ibom) secured bronze.
In the women’s 1500m, Godsmind Eteng (Cross River) won gold, Hephzibah Okon took silver and Achinike Stella (Delta) claimed bronze.
In the women’s 5000m, Jecinta Elias (Rivers) won gold, Ogboga Esther (Imo) took silver and Blessing Offiong (Cross River) claimed bronze.
Hurdles
In the men’s 110m hurdles, Oseiwe Salami (Edo) won gold, Ifeanyi Edurance (Delta) took silver and Solomon Okundaye (Edo) claimed bronze.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Precious Uduvweghre (Delta) won gold, Victory Imoisemeh (Edo) took silver and Omoye Iyoha (Edo) secured bronze.
In the men’s 400m hurdles, Oseiwe Salami (Edo) won gold, Daniel Ovie (Delta) took silver and Ifeanyi Edurance (Delta) claimed bronze.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Innocent Mary (Delta) won gold, Ifechukwu Esther (Imo) secured silver and Emediong Sunday (Akwa Ibom) took bronze.
Field Events
In the men’s long jump, Gowon Gift (Delta) won gold, Godswill Chinedu (Edo) took silver and Emmanuel Ojetayo (Ondo) claimed bronze.
In the women’s long jump, Favour Olise (Delta) won gold, Ayi Sekibo (Rivers) took silver and Edidiong Joseph (Akwa Ibom) claimed bronze.
In the men’s triple jump, Ugherakpoteni Timothy (Delta) won gold, Kelvin Wonodi (Rivers) took silver and Raymond Imhandojiemu (Edo) claimed bronze.
In the women’s triple jump, Ajagbawa Francess (Delta) won gold, Chinyere Ezekwere (Edo) took silver and Mercy Akhigbe (Edo) secured bronze.
In the men’s high jump, Melvin Oddo (Delta) won gold, Bright Godson (Rivers) took silver and Christian Edet (Akwa Ibom) claimed bronze.

Athletics at the 2nd Niger Delta Games showed strong talent across the region. Delta State finished top of the athletics medals table after consistent performances in almost every event.
