35 players called up to Flamingos camp for FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup
As preparations intensify for the upcoming 8th FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, Nigeria’s Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookere, has invited 35 players to the national camp.
This marks the first round of final preparations for the tournament, which will take place from October to November in Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo.
The Flamingos, Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, had an impressive qualification campaign, netting a staggering 25 goals in just six matches. Their dominant performances included a 12-0 aggregate win against the Central African Republic, a 7-1 aggregate victory over Burkina Faso in the third round, and a 6-1 triumph over Liberia in the final round of qualifiers.
Among the standout invitees are top scorer Harmony Chidi, who struck a record-breaking 13 goals during the qualification series, and her strike partner, Peace Effiong. The list also includes team captain Taiwo Afolabi, goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, and defender Prisca Nwachukwu, all of whom played pivotal roles in the team’s success.
The Flamingos will be aiming to build on their previous performances as they prepare to take on teams like the Dominican Republic and Ecuador in the group stage of the World Cup.
