IAAF president Sebastian Coe: ‘I’ll fix anti-doping failures’

IAAF president Sebastian Coe has insisted to the Culture, Media and Sport select committee that he is the man to “fix” the sport’s doping problems.

The two-time Olympic champion was quizzed by a panel in Westminster for around three hours over the recent doping allegations in athletics.

The Russian Athletics Federation was recently provisionally suspended from all competitions after a World Anti-Doping Agency committee reported allegations of widespread doping, cover-ups and extortion. During today’s hearing, Coe said: “I have the experience to do that and I have the support of the sport. Have there been failures? Yes. Will I fix them? Yes.

“If I don’t do that I know there will be no tomorrows in our sport. I want a responsible and accountable sport. I want a sport people can trust.”

Coe was elected president of the world’s athletics governing body in August this year.
