Team Nigeria wins eight more medals to take tally to 26 at the 2022 CWG in Birmingham

The medals keep coming as Team Nigeria won eight more medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this afternoon/evening to take the hauls to 26.

four of the eight medals won in the afternoon/evening were won by Nigerian wrestlers, one by a boxer while three medals were won in the table tennis event.

Faith Obazuaye won Nigeria’s first medal from the Table Tennis event at Birmingham2022, clinching Bronze in Women’s Singles Classes 6-10 3rd place match.

Obazuaye defeated Felicity Pickard 3-1 (11-6, 7-11, 6-11, 8-11) to finish on the podium.

Ogunkunle Isau won a Bronze medal for Nigeria in the Men’s Singles Classes 3-5 Para Table 🏓 event to increase the Table Tennis medals to two.

Isau defeated Raj Aravindan Alagar of India 🇮🇳 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-9) to win Bronze Medal

Miesinnei Mercy Genesis won a GOLD medal for Team Nigeria, defeating her Canadian opponent, Madison Parks to win the women’s Wrestling Freestyle 50kg.

Genesis had a 3-1 VFA (Victory by fall) to easily the contest. It is now the third Gold medal from Wreselting after Odunayo Adekuoroye and Blessing Oborududu hauls.

Ebikewenimo Welson won a Silver medal in men’s Freestyle 57kg Wrestling, missing out on GOLD to India’s Kumar Ravi who won by a VSU.

Ogbonna John battered his English opponent, Charlie Bowling 10-0 VSU (Victory by technical superiority) to win the Bronze medal in the men’s Freestyle 74kg.

Cynthia Ogunsemilore won Nigeria’s first medal in boxing she settled for Bronze in the Women’s lightweight.

Nigerian Army Hannah Rueben settled for a silver medal in the 76kg women’s wrestling at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

She lost in the final to Justina di Stasio of Canada by 2-4 points in the 76kg finals.

Nasiru Sule lost 3-1 in the Men’s Singles Classes 3-5 final to England’s Jack HUNTER-SPIVEY.
