Missing 2026 World Cup Would Be a Disaster for Super Eagles: Rohr Warns
Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has expressed serious concerns about Nigeria’s sluggish start in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
With three draws and one defeat in their first four matches, the team is currently second from the bottom in Group C. Rohr, who recently led Benin Republic to a 2-1 victory over Nigeria, stressed the dire consequences of missing the World Cup for a second consecutive time.
“If they miss another one, for such a football country with the best players in Africa, it would be a little bit shameful,” Rohr stated.
He emphasized the need for the players, federation, and staff to rally together and improve their performance. “I think the players will do everything to go there (World Cup), and also the federation and the staff. But now, of course, they must be realistic and say that it’s only three points in four games.”
Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the last World Cup in Qatar was a major disappointment for a nation known for its strong football heritage.
The Super Eagles have qualified for six of the last eight World Cups, making their current struggle a pressing concern.
With only a few matches left in the qualifiers, Nigeria needs every game to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
The players, coaches, and the federation need to unite and make a concerted effort to secure their spot in the 2026 World Cup.
The pressure is on, and the Super Eagles must rise to the occasion to avoid another major disappointment.
The entire nation will be watching closely, hoping for a turnaround that will see Nigeria return to the global stage in 2026.
