Rangers Int’l and Remo Stars to know CAF Champions League preliminary round opponents on July 11
Nigerian clubs Rangers International and Remo Stars will know their CAF Champions League preliminary round opponents on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Despite their triumph in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Rangers International will have to begin their journey in the Champions League from the preliminary round.
The Flying Antelopes secured the league title with a game to spare, dethroning Enyimba International, and thereby qualifying for the Champions League alongside Remo Stars, who finished second.
However, the African football governing body has released the list of clubs exempted from the preliminary round, and neither Rangers nor Remo Stars were included. The clubs that will bypass the earlier stages are defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, ES Tunis, TP Mazembe of DR Congo, and Petro De Luanda of Angola.
The draw for the competition is scheduled to be held on Thursday, July 11, in Cairo, Egypt.
This means that both Nigerian teams will need to scale through the initial rounds to advance in the prestigious continental competition.
