Nigerian striker hailed for stellar start to the season

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberán has showered praise on Nigerian striker Josh Maja for his determination and hard work, which have seen him emerge as a key player for the Baggies this season.

Maja, who struggled with injuries during the previous campaign, has made a remarkable comeback and is currently one of the standout performers in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 24-year-old forward scored his fifth goal of the season in West Brom’s 3-1 victory over Portsmouth on Sunday. With this tally, Nigerian striker Josh Maja is now among the top scorers across England’s top four divisions, only behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Reflecting on Maja’s resurgence, Corberán highlighted the striker’s dedication during his recovery from injury, attributing his current form to his hard work.

“We know he is an important player for us. We couldn’t enjoy Josh too much last year because he had two injuries in the same place,” Corberán said after the match.

“He worked very hard when the rest of the team was resting to arrive into the season at the level he is right now.”

Corberán emphasized that Maja’s performances are a result of his mentality and commitment: “Normally in life things are not coincidences, they are consequences of things. His mentality, his commitment, and hard work are now giving him the consequences.”

With Nigerian International Josh Maja in top form, West Brom fans will be hoping he can maintain his momentum and help the team push for English Premier League promotion this season.
