Sunday Oliseh: Arsenal deserved victory over Manchester City
Former Super Eagles coach and captain, Sunday Oliseh, has weighed in on Arsenal’s recent Premier League clash with Manchester City, which ended in a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
The match, which featured intense competition between the two giants of English football, saw both sides share the spoils after a dramatic encounter.
Taking to social media, Oliseh, a former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, expressed his belief that Arsenal were the superior team and should have emerged victorious. He pointed to a controversial red card decision that, in his view, saved Manchester City from a heavier defeat.
“Arsenal deserved victory over Manchester City. This doubtful red card saved Manchester City from a thrashing by a well-organised Arsenal side, in my opinion. Compact, direct playing with a world-class goalkeeper,” Oliseh wrote.
He also hinted that Arsenal could be serious contenders for the Premier League title this season, adding, “Arsenal could be champions this year!”
The game saw Erling Haaland open the scoring for City, followed by goals from Arsenal’s Ricardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhães that gave the Gunners the lead.
However, Arsenal’s momentum was disrupted when Leandro Trossard received a red card in first-half injury time. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Arsenal fought hard but were unable to prevent a late equaliser from Manchester City’s John Stones.
