AC Milan coach reveals why Samuel Chukwueze is struggling for form
AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca has shared insights on how Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze can overcome his struggles at the club. Despite a promising pre-season in which Chukwueze scored against Real Madrid and provided two assists against Manchester City, he has struggled to maintain that form since the start of the Serie A campaign.
Chukwueze, who started in Milan’s season opener against Torino but was substituted after 60 minutes, has only started one game since then. Fonseca acknowledged the 25-year-old’s early promise but emphasized that Chukwueze needs to adapt to the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of Serie A.
“Chukwueze had a very good pre-season; I think he just needs to build confidence within the context of Serie A, where you have neither time nor space to think and must make the right decisions quickly,” Fonseca said in an interview with the club’s official website.
Fonseca also mentioned that, due to the team’s current form, he must prioritize players who are performing well. Milan have won only two of their five Serie A matches so far this season and suffered a defeat to Liverpool in their opening UEFA Champions League match. As the Portuguese coach seeks to turn the team’s fortunes around, Chukwueze will need to find his rhythm to earn more playing time and make a significant impact at San Siro.
