Pep Guardiola makes ‘special comment’ about Alex Iwobi ahead of Man City vs Fulham
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken highly of Fulham’s Nigerian winger, Alex Iwobi, ahead of their Premier League showdown on Saturday.
Guardiola acknowledged Iwobi’s impressive form, as Fulham head to the Etihad Stadium for a challenging match against the reigning champions.
Fulham have had a strong start to the season, currently sitting sixth in the Premier League with 11 points from their first six games. They have recorded three wins, two draws, and one loss, which came against Manchester United on the opening day. Iwobi has been a key figure in Fulham’s success so far, contributing one goal and one assist in six appearances.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Guardiola highlighted Fulham’s attacking threat and gave special mention to Iwobi. “Fulham have a lot of weapons and speed,” Guardiola said. “I have never seen Iwobi in the form he is playing right now.”
Iwobi’s performances have helped Fulham secure key results, including a recent 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. With the Nigerian star in top form, Fulham will be looking to continue their positive run and cause problems for Manchester City on Matchday 7 of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
Iwobi, who has made 259 Premier League appearances, has 23 goals and 30 assists in his career. His form will not only be crucial for Fulham but also for the Nigerian national team. The Super Eagles are preparing for crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya, with interim coach Augustine Eguavoen counting on Iwobi’s talent.
Nigeria will host Libya on October 11 in Uyo, followed by an away fixture in Benina four days later. Eguavoen, who recently led Nigeria to a win over Benin Republic and a draw with Rwanda, will hope Iwobi’s impressive club form continues as the Super Eagles aim to secure qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
