Nigeria book FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup knockout round spot after big win over Ecuador
The Nigeria U-17 girls, the Flamingos, booked their place in the knockout round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a resounding 4-0 victory over Ecuador, their second win in the tournament.
Shakirat Moshood was the star of the match, scoring twice – first in the 28th minute and again deep into stoppage time (90+6′). Harmony Chidi added to the scoreline in the 54th minute, while Peace Effiong sealed the comfortable win with a goal in the 66th minute.
This victory follows Nigeria’s 4-1 triumph over New Zealand in their opening match, keeping the Flamingos unbeaten in the group stage so far.
Up next for Nigeria is a game against hosts, Dominican Republic, a match which will afford Nigeria’s coach Bankole Olowookere opportunity to test new legs ahead of the knockout stage.
