Giannis Antetokounmpo: Milwaukee Bucks Could Trade Me If We Don’t Win

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, often called the “Nigerian Freak,” has hinted that the team might trade him if they fail to win a championship soon. The Bucks are under pressure after a series of disappointing playoff performances following their 2021 NBA title win.

Milwaukee’s struggles have been evident, with the team crashing out in the conference semi-finals and suffering early exits in the first round over the last two seasons. These setbacks have triggered changes within the club, creating a wave of uncertainty.

The Bucks made headlines last summer by bringing in star point guard Damian Lillard, but they also lost Jrue Holiday to the Boston Celtics, where he won another championship. Lillard’s arrival has changed the team’s dynamic, shifting the focus more toward scoring.

Giannis has taken centre stage in the team’s efforts, but he recently raised eyebrows with comments about his future. Speaking to The Athletic, he suggested that if the Bucks don’t meet expectations, he might be traded.

“Yes, if we don’t win a championship, they could trade me,” Giannis said. “This is the business we live in. No one is safe. At any moment, if you’re not successful, it could be the end. If you don’t do the job well enough, you’re out.”

Although the Bucks have Giannis under contract until 2027 and view him as their key player for the future, the 29-year-old hinted he could also push for a move if things don’t go his way.

Giannis remains committed for now and praised the team’s recent comeback win against the Portland Trail Blazers on social media. However, with the 2024-25 season being crucial, the pressure is on the Bucks to deliver results. If they fall short, changes—including the possibility of Giannis leaving—could be on the horizon.
