Andy Okpe Reveals Why He Stopped Playing for Rivers United
Nigerian forward Andy Okpe has shared the reasons behind his decision to stop playing for Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United.
Okpe, who joined Rivers United from Remo Stars last season, was one of the standout performers for the club, attracting interest from top teams in Africa and Europe. However, the player’s potential move abroad has been stalled due to financial disagreements.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the striker disclosed that Rivers United’s high financial demands have scared off his suitors, preventing him from making a move abroad.
“For those of you asking why I am not playing for Rivers United this season, they have been making it difficult for me to travel abroad and make good money,” Okpe wrote.
He expressed frustration with the situation, adding: “I already told them I’m done playing for them. I worked hard to get to this level, and they should accept the offer and let me go.”
With Okpe’s public declaration, his future with Rivers United remains unclear. It is yet to be seen whether the club will reduce their asking price to facilitate his transfer or if the impasse will continue into the season.
