Sevilla confirms Chidera Ejuke’s three-month Injury layoff
Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke will be sidelined for up to three months after suffering a hamstring injury during Sevilla’s 5-1 loss to Barcelona.
The 26-year-old, who has been one of the standout players in La Liga this season, was forced off the pitch just before halftime in the defeat against Barcelona. Ejuke, known for his excellent dribbling skills, currently leads the league in completed dribbles per 90 minutes.
Sevilla feared the worst when he limped off, and medical tests have confirmed a high-grade hamstring tear, ruling him out of action for a minimum of three months. The recovery period could extend further if surgery becomes necessary.
The club announced Ejuke’s injury via their social media:
“Confirmadas las lesiones de Ejuke y @suso30oficial producidas en Barcelona. ¡Pronta recuperación a ambos!”
His absence will be a major setback for Sevilla, as the Nigerian forward has been pivotal to their attacking play since joining from Royal Antwerp.
Ejuke’s injury also deals a blow to the Super Eagles, as he had recently earned a call-up for Nigeria’s last international break. Unfortunately, due to the injury, he will now miss upcoming fixtures against Benin Republic and Libya. His return to the national team, where he was set to earn his 9th cap, will have to wait until next year.
Sevilla will hope for a smooth recovery, as the winger’s absence will be felt in both their domestic and European campaigns.
