Tennis legend predicts what will make Novak Djokovic retire

Tennis legend Jimmy Connors has predicted that Novak Djokovic will only retire when younger players push him out of the sport he has dominated for years.

Djokovic, 37, is set to become the last member of tennis’ ‘Big Three’ still competing, with Rafael Nadal preparing to join Roger Federer in retirement.

Nadal recently confirmed that he will retire after the upcoming Davis Cup Finals, leaving many to wonder when Djokovic will step away from his record-breaking career. Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles, shows no signs of slowing down and remains one of the best players in the game.

Connors, an eight-time Grand Slam champion, believes that Djokovic’s passion and discipline are still driving him. Speaking on his Advantage Connors podcast, he said: “It’s hard to say he has lost motivation. Everything he does—from his training to his diet—is centred around being the best.”

While Connors acknowledged that age is inevitable, he also suggested that Djokovic is still capable of competing at the highest level. “Some younger players may see him as the ‘old man,’ but Djokovic is still giving them a tough fight,” Connors added.

As Nadal prepares for retirement, Djokovic’s future will attract more attention. However, it seems the Serb will only walk away when new talent truly surpasses him, showing that even at 37, he is not ready to step aside just yet.
