In a recent response to critics following his match against boxing icon Mike Tyson, YouTube star Jake Paul openly defended the former champion, showcasing deep respect for his legendary status.
After their highly publicized fight at AT&T Stadium, which attracted nearly 70,000 spectators and was streamed live on Netflix, Paul took to social media to address comments made by Piers Morgan regarding Tyson’s performance.
Morgan suggested that a younger version of Tyson would have finished the match in 90 seconds, praising the 58-year-old’s heart and resilience in going eight rounds with a fitter opponent half his age.
Paul echoed Morgan’s sentiments, tweeting, “Who mocked him? He’s a beast. All respect to the Baddest Ever. It was an honor to share the ring with him.” His admiration signals a strong recognition of Tyson’s legacy, even in the face of criticism about the fight’s pace, which left some fans disappointed due to Tyson’s struggles against Paul.
In the bout, Paul secured a unanimous decision victory, with the judges scoring it 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in his favor. Although Paul initially sought a thrilling spectacle, he later admitted to easing off in the later rounds, stating, “I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want to hurt someone that didn’t need to be hurt.” As he moves forward in his boxing career—boasting a record of 11 wins and one loss—Paul remains focused on future endeavours.
