CAF Women’s Champions League: Edo Queens Finish Fourth, Earn $300,000 Prize Money

Nigeria’s Edo Queens finished fourth at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League after losing 4-3 on penalties to Morocco’s FC Masar in the bronze medal match on Friday.
Semi-final Setback
Edo Queens had high hopes of reaching the final but fell short after a 3-1 loss to TP Mazembe in the semi-finals. Despite leading 1-0 for most of the match, they conceded three late goals, ending their dreams of a historic final appearance.
Bronze Medal Match
Determined to bounce back, the Queens faced FC Masar in the third-place match. However, after a goalless draw in regulation time, they narrowly lost in the penalty shootout.

Impressive Journey
Despite missing out on the podium, Edo Queens had an impressive campaign in Morocco. They started with a 3-0 win over CBE, followed by a 0-0 draw with FC Masar in the group stage, and a thrilling 2-1 victory against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Prize Money
Edo Queens’ fourth-place finish earned them $300,000 (over ₦508 million) in prize money.
The CAF Women’s Champions League prize money breakdown is as follows:

- Runners-up: $400,000
- 3rd place: $350,000
- 4th place: $300,000
Although no Nigerian team has reached the tournament final in its four editions, Edo Queens’ performance remains a positive milestone for Nigerian women’s football.
