Daniel Amokachi’s struggles continue as Lobi Stars surrender two-goal lead to draw with Kano Pillars
Daniel Amokachi’s tenure as Lobi Stars’ technical adviser hit another setback as his team let a two-goal lead slip, settling for a 2-2 draw with Kano Pillars in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash on Sunday.
Ahmad Liman and Ossy Martins gave Lobi Stars a flying start, putting the home side 2-0 ahead with their goals in the first half. The dominant display raised hopes for a much-needed win under Amokachi, who was appointed last month to revive the club’s poor form this season.
However, Kano Pillars staged a remarkable comeback late in the second half. Rabiu Ali and Mustapha Umar struck in the 76th and 77th minutes, stunning the home crowd and denying Lobi Stars all three points.
The draw leaves Lobi Stars in 16th place on the NPFL table with just 13 points from 13 matches, a reflection of their ongoing struggles this season. Meanwhile, Kano Pillars sit in a more comfortable 6th position with 19 points from the same number of games.
Amokachi’s mandate to steer Lobi Stars back to form has yet to yield positive results, with the team failing to capitalise on opportunities and showing vulnerability in defence. The pressure is mounting as the club battles to avoid slipping further into the relegation zone.
The result highlights the challenges ahead for the former Nigerian international as he looks to turn Lobi Stars’ fortunes around in a fiercely competitive NPFL season.
