Ademola Lookman Misses Out on Serie A Player of the Year Award

Atalanta and Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has lost the 2023/24 Serie A Player of the Year award to Inter Milan star Lautaro Martínez.

Martínez had an outstanding season, scoring 24 goals to win the Serie A Golden Boot and leading Inter Milan to the league title. The Argentine forward, who also helped his country win the Copa America alongside Lionel Messi, was named the league’s most valuable player and included in the Serie A Team of the Season.

Lookman, who had an incredible year himself, was among the nominees for Forward of the Year but finished behind Martínez, Rafael Leao, Marcus Thuram, and Joshua Zirkzee.

Despite the disappointment, Lookman remains a strong contender for the CAF Player of the Year award. The Nigerian international played a key role in Atalanta’s success, leading them to their first-ever European title with a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.

The 27-year-old has also been in great form this season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 matches, as Atalanta pushes for more success.
