Australian Teen Gout Gout Breaks Records and Earns ‘Next Usain Bolt’ Title
Australian sprinter Gout Gout had an incredible weekend, breaking several records, including Usain Bolt’s age-16 record. At the All Schools Championships in Brisbane, the 16-year-old made history, becoming the fastest Australian sprinter in 56 years and earning praise as the next Usain Bolt.
On Friday, December 6th, Gout started his remarkable weekend with a wind-aided 10.04 seconds in his 100m heat, the fourth-fastest time in Australian history. In the final, he broke the national U18 record, running a legal 10.17 seconds, beating Sebastian Sultana’s previous best of 10.27 seconds.
Not stopping there, Gout went on to compete in the 200m on Saturday. He ran an impressive 20.38 seconds in the heat and later won the final in 20.04 seconds, breaking Peter Norman’s 56-year-old Australian national record of 20.06 seconds, set at the 1968 Olympics.
Here are the 5 major records Gout broke this weekend:
- National U18 100m Record: With his wind-aided 10.04 seconds, he became the fastest Australian sprinter in 31 years and broke the U18 national record with a legal 10.17 seconds.
- National U18 200m Record: His 20.04 seconds in the 200m broke Peter Norman’s 56-year-old Australian record and set a new standard for Australian sprinters.
- Usain Bolt’s Age-16 Best: Gout’s 20.04 seconds in the 200m is faster than Usain Bolt’s age-16 record of 20.13 seconds. He is now the second-fastest teenager ever in the 200m, after Erriyon Knighton.
- Oceania Record: By breaking the Australian 200m record, Gout also set a new Oceania record, making him the fastest sprinter in the region.
Gout, who stands 6ft 2in tall, has been compared to Usain Bolt due to his speed and running style. He is now seen as a strong contender for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, where he could potentially dominate both the 100m and 200m events.
