Babaganaru bows to pressure, resigns as Akwa United coach
Akwa United FC head coach, Muhammed Babaganaru, has resigned from his position following a tough season for the club. SportsRation can confirm that Babaganaru decided to step down after the team’s disappointing performance in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
In 16 matches this season, Akwa United has won just four, lost eight, and drawn four, leaving them in a precarious position. The resignation came after a 1-1 draw in a week 16 home match against a struggling team at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
After the match, frustrated supporters of the 2021 Nigerian champions voiced their dissatisfaction with the club’s poor form. Akwa United currently sits in 19th place, deeply entrenched in the relegation zone for the second consecutive season.
At the final whistle, an upset Babaganaru walked up to the club’s chairman and informed him of his decision to resign. As of now, Akwa United has not released any official statement confirming Babaganaru’s departure.
This resignation marks a challenging chapter for Akwa United, as they now look ahead to finding a new coach to guide them through what is shaping up to be a difficult season.
