Bayer Leverkusen Star Jeremie Frimpong Chooses Nigerian Music Over Ghanaian

Jeremie Frimpong, the Bayer Leverkusen star, has revealed his preference for Nigerian music over Ghanaian music, despite having Ghanaian roots. Born in the Netherlands, Frimpong could have chosen to represent Ghana in football, but he opted to play for the Netherlands instead. However, when it comes to music, he didn’t hesitate to pick Nigeria as his favorite, citing the country’s abundance of talented artists.

In a conversation with Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba, Frimpong acknowledged that both Ghana and Nigeria have great music, but he feels Nigerian music stands out. He named several top Nigerian musicians like Asake, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, praising their work and noting that there are simply too many great artists to list. He also shared his enjoyment of Asake’s recent concert, calling it “top.” Though Frimpong has strong ties to his Ghanaian heritage, his connection to Nigerian culture, especially its music, is clear from his choice.

Frimpong’s background is as diverse as his musical tastes. His family moved to England when he was seven, giving him the option to represent the Netherlands, Ghana, or England in football. He chose to play for the Netherlands, making his senior debut in 2023. At 24, Frimpong, the Leverkusen star, has made a big impact in the Bundesliga, contributing 15 goals in 27 matches for his team. His love for Nigerian music adds an interesting layer to his multicultural life and shows how his heritage influences both his personal and professional worlds.
