Awoniyi Left on Bench as Elanga’s Late Goal Completes Nottingham Forest’s Comeback Against Aston Villa
Nottingham Forest pulled off an exciting 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the City Ground in a dramatic match.
Aston Villa came into the game confident after their 3-2 victory over Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, but they couldn’t keep up the momentum and lost to Forest.
Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo made one change to the team that won against Manchester United last week. While Ola Aina kept his place in the starting lineup, Taiwo Awoniyi was left on the bench.
The first half ended 0-0 as both teams played carefully. In the second half, Aston Villa took the lead when John McGinn crossed the ball to Jhon Duran, who scored a great header.
Forest pushed hard after conceding and thought they had equalized, but the goal was ruled offside. Soon after, Forest did score when Nikola Milenkovic met a cross from Morgan Gibbs-White and scored a fantastic header to make it 1-1.
Just when Villa thought they could hold on for a draw, Elanga scored a late goal to give Forest a 2-1 win and complete their comeback. Awoniyi, who was left out of the starting lineup, watched the exciting finish from the bench.
