African Champions Al Ahly Interested in Kelechi Iheanacho
Al Ahly, one of Egypt’s top football clubs, are interested in signing Nigerian footballer Kelechi Iheanacho, who currently plays for Sevilla in Spain.
Iheanacho, 28, has had a difficult time in Spain since joining Sevilla in July 2024 after leaving Leicester City. He has not scored or assisted in nine La Liga games this season, although he scored three goals in two Copa del Rey matches.
Because of his struggles, Sevilla is considering letting Iheanacho leave on loan with an option to buy during the January transfer window. Al Ahly has now entered the race to sign him, as they look for a replacement for Percy Tau, who might leave the club.
However, Al Ahly faces competition from other clubs. Watford, a team in the English Championship, is also interested in Iheanacho, and there are clubs in Greece, Turkey, and the USA keeping an eye on his situation.
Iheanacho has a strong football history. He is the all-time Nigerian top scorer for Manchester City, with 21 goals and seven assists in 64 games. He also helped Leicester City win the FA Cup and the Community Shield in 2021.
If Al Ahly signs Iheanacho, it would be a big move for the club, adding a player with great experience and goal-scoring abilities. However, with other clubs chasing him, the competition for his signature is expected to grow as the transfer window opens in January.
