Tottenham secured a narrow 1-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, with Lucas Bergvall scoring the only goal of the match.
However, the game was overshadowed by an injury to Rodrigo Bentancur, who collapsed in the early stages of the first half. The match was paused for eight minutes while the midfielder received treatment, and he was later stretchered off and taken to the hospital. The players appeared visibly shaken after the incident.
In the second half, the tempo of the game picked up. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who came on as a substitute, had a shot cleared off the line, and Dominic Solanke saw a goal disallowed by VAR for being offside.
The match seemed set to end in a draw until Solanke set up Bergvall in the box, allowing the young forward to score his first goal for Tottenham and give them a 1-0 lead to take into the second leg at Anfield.
The second leg will take place on 6th February, and Tottenham will be hoping their slim advantage is enough to send them to Wembley.
