Brown Ideye Reacts to Playing Against New Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle
Former Super Eagles player Brown Ideye responded to a viral photo of him playing against Eric Chelle, the newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles.
Chelle was recently hired by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to take over as the new coach, replacing Augustine Eguavoen, who was serving as the interim coach after Finidi George’s resignation. Under Eguavoen, the Super Eagles qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The photo showed Ideye and Chelle battling for the ball during a Ligue 1 match between Sochaux and Lens in the 2010–11 season. The picture went viral online, and Ideye responded with a tweet saying, “I need my flowers,” referencing the moment.
Ideye, now playing for Enyimba International FC, made the tweet in reply to a post from Chukwuemeka, an X user, sharing the photo.
Ideye last played for the Super Eagles during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Zambia. It is not clear if he will be considered for a return to the national team under Chelle’s management.
