West Ham Interested in Signing Super Eagles Striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest
A top source has revealed that West Ham United are considering signing Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigerian striker from Nottingham Forest, to help with their injury problems in attack.
West Ham, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options, have been keeping an eye on Awoniyi’s situation at Forest. New manager Graham Potter is keen to improve the team’s form, and signing a strong striker is one of his priorities.
West Ham has had a difficult season, winning just six out of 20 Premier League matches so far.
Awoniyi, however, has struggled to secure a regular starting spot at Forest, with Chris Wood often picked ahead of him. The Nigerian striker has started only two out of 15 league games and has scored just one goal.
Despite his limited game time, West Ham sees potential in Awoniyi as a target man. The club believes he could be a good replacement for Michail Antonio, who will miss the rest of the season due to a broken leg.
Awoniyi joined Forest in July 2022 for a club-record £17 million from Union Berlin, but has faced injury problems and found himself lower in the pecking order under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
With two and a half years left on his contract, Awoniyi may be tempted to move to West Ham in order to revive his career.
Although Forest’s manager Nuno Espirito Santo has spoken highly of Awoniyi, it remains unclear whether the striker has a future at the club. West Ham’s offer could test Forest’s decision to keep him.
