Manchester United star Anthony drags club to court over wage dispute
Manchester United star Antony has taken legal action against his former club, Ajax, over fines he claims were unlawfully deducted from his wages. The Brazilian international alleges that Ajax imposed the fines during his transfer to Manchester United in 2022.
Antony reportedly missed training sessions and a league match to push for his £85.5 million move to Old Trafford. At the time, Ajax’s manager, Alfred Schreuder, criticised the player, stating he only wanted those fully committed to the team.
According to Dutch newspaper AD, Antony’s fines amounted to several hundred thousand euros. The matter is now being reviewed by the arbitration committee of the Dutch Football Association, with hearings starting in Zeist. Antony filed the case six months ago, and a decision is expected within a month of the hearing.
Since joining Manchester United, Antony’s performances have been underwhelming compared to his time at Ajax. After scoring on his debut against Arsenal, he has managed just 11 more goals across three seasons. This season, he scored only once in a Carabao Cup match against Barnsley.
With inconsistent performances and limited starts under both Erik ten Hag and current manager Ruben Amorim, there is speculation Antony could leave Manchester United in the January transfer window.
