Cristiano Ronaldo set to become highest paid player in football history
Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, which could see him earning an incredible €3.8 million (₦5 billion) per week.
If confirmed, this deal would further cement Ronaldo’s position as the highest-paid footballer in history.
The 39-year-old joined Al-Nassr in January 2023 after leaving Manchester United in a widely publicised move. Since his arrival, Ronaldo has been a key figure in the Saudi Pro League, helping attract other big names like Neymar, Karim Benzema, and Ivan Toney to the league with lucrative offers.
Reports from Saudi outlet Al Khabar via AS indicate that Ronaldo has agreed to extend his current contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
Since joining Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has scored an impressive 75 goals in 84 appearances. Despite this, he has only secured one trophy with the club—the 2023 Arab Club Championship—falling short in two league title races against rivals Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal.
Currently, Al-Nassr sits third in the league table with 28 points, trailing behind Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad, who are both tied on 37 points. The Portugal captain will be aiming to lead his team to greater success in the ongoing season.
If the new deal is finalised, it will mark another milestone in Ronaldo’s illustrious career and further highlight the growing influence of the Saudi Pro League in world football.
