Alex Iwobi Surpasses Kanu Nwankwo’s Premier League Record
Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has surpassed Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo’s record for Premier League appearances, cementing his place among the league’s greatest Nigerian players.
Iwobi achieved this milestone during Fulham’s 3-2 defeat to West Ham in a thrilling London derby. The Nigerian midfielder featured in his 274th Premier League match, overtaking Kanu’s previous tally of 273 appearances.
The 27-year-old has now played 123 games for Arsenal, 100 for Everton, and 51 for Fulham. His consistent performances across these clubs have made him one of Nigeria’s most dependable players in the league.
Despite Fulham’s loss, Iwobi shone with two goals in the 51st and 76th minutes. However, strikes from Carlos Soler, Tomas Soucek, and Lucas Paqueta secured the victory for West Ham.
Iwobi’s achievement puts him second on the list of Nigerians with the most Premier League appearances, behind only Shola Ameobi, who played 289 games. With just 15 matches needed to break Ameobi’s record, Iwobi is on track to become Nigeria’s all-time appearance leader in the Premier League.
Having already contributed seven goals and three assists this season, Iwobi continues to impress for Fulham and is building a legacy as one of the greatest Nigerian players in Premier League history.
