Brescia Fined for Racist Chants Directed at Ebenezer Akinsanmiro

Italy’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office has fined Brescia after their fans directed racist chants at Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, a former Remo Stars player currently on loan at Sampdoria from Inter Milan.

The incident occurred during a recent Serie B match, where the chants disrupted the game.

Fine Details

The Serie B Sports Judge imposed a fine of €12,000 (about ₦19.2 million) on Brescia. However, no sections of the stadium were closed as part of the punishment.

A statement on the Lega B website explained:
“A fine of €12,000 has been imposed on Brescia for discriminatory chants by its supporters towards a player of the opposing team. The chants forced the referee to pause the match for approximately one minute in the 22nd minute of the first half.”

Response to the Incident

In line with anti-discrimination protocol, an announcement was made during the match to address the behaviour. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office estimated that about 8% of the fans in the stand were involved in the chants.
