Nathan Tella Scores as Bayer Leverkusen Defeat Sparta Prague
Bayer Leverkusen continued their impressive form with a 2-0 victory over Sparta Prague, with Nigerian forward Nathan Tella making a significant impact by getting on the scoresheet.
Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for the Bundesliga leaders in the 32nd minute, finishing off a well-worked move after receiving a precise pass from Jeremie Frimpong. The German international calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner, giving Leverkusen the lead.
Sparta Prague fought to get back into the game, with Victor Olatunji and Veljko Birmancevic both coming close, but Leverkusen’s defence, led by Edmond Tapsoba and Jonathan Tah, held firm.
Tella doubled Leverkusen’s advantage in the 64th minute, finishing clinically from the centre of the box after a well-executed set-piece. The Nigerian winger had been lively throughout the match, coming close earlier in the first half with a header and a right-footed effort that tested the Sparta goalkeeper.
Despite some late pressure from the visitors, Xabi Alonso’s side maintained control of the game. The Spanish tactician made several substitutions, bringing on Jonas Hofmann, Aleix García, and Robert Andrich to see out the win.
Leverkusen’s latest triumph further solidifies their strong campaign, with Tella’s goal showcasing his growing importance in the squad. The victory keeps them on track in their European ambitions, as they continue to impress both domestically and on the continental stage
