‘I hope it continues to grow’ – Cyriel Dessers reveals wish for his new strike partner at Rangers
Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, the Super Eagles striker for Rangers, has spoken highly of his new partnership with Hamza Igamane, the Moroccan U-23 forward, as both players have found good form in recent games.
Dessers started the season as Rangers’ first-choice striker, but after a run of eight games without a goal, he was replaced by Igamane, who made the most of his opportunity, scoring 10 goals in 10 matches. As a result, Dessers’ playing time was reduced, and transfer rumours began to circulate ahead of January. However, when given a chance in the new year, Dessers scored four goals in the first three matches, including a brilliant strike against Manchester United.
Speaking about his current situation at Ibrox, Dessers shared that he has put all transfer talk behind him and is focusing on winning trophies with Rangers. “I am feeling well at this moment, for me personally it is a good feeling, but I think in the last games the whole team has shared this feeling as well. There are a lot of positive vibes in this building,” he said.
On his partnership with Igamane, Dessers was full of praise for the young Moroccan striker, saying, “I have a very good feeling about this. The Scottish league is tough for a striker, you get a lot of kicks and knocks. A lot of times, I am fighting against three centre-backs, but with Hamza next to me, we can use each other, create space for each other, and make the defenders hesitate a little more.”
Dessers added, “Hamza is a very good player, and I hope this partnership continues to grow. We’ve only played a few games together, but I look forward to developing it further.”
So far this season, Dessers has scored 18 goals and provided 6 assists in 37 matches, while Igamane has netted 13 goals and provided 3 assists in 29 games. The two will be looking to add to their tally in the upcoming Scottish Cup match against Queen’s Park.
