Ademola Lookman set for Atalanta exit

Ademola Lookman is expected to leave Atalanta this summer after a fallout with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano reported that the plan for Lookman to leave was already set last summer, with the club planning to complete the transfer this year.

Despite recent tensions between Lookman and Gasperini, Atalanta is still sticking to its decision.

The situation worsened after Gasperini made strong comments about Lookman following Atalanta’s exit from the Champions League. The manager criticised the Nigerian forward’s penalty-taking, which led to a public response from Lookman.

Lookman reacted on social media, calling Gasperini’s remarks “deeply disrespectful” and explained that he took the penalty because it was the request of the designated taker.

Atalanta is expected to discuss the situation with Gasperini in the next 24 hours, but Romano pointed out that this will not change the club’s plans to sell Lookman.

Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has been a key player for Atalanta. His notable performances included a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, which helped Atalanta win their first-ever European title.

With the summer transfer window approaching, several European clubs are expected to show interest in signing the Nigerian forward.
