Super Eagles star Moses Simon begins French citizenship process

Super Eagles forward Moses Simon has started the process of becoming a French citizen after spending six years at Ligue 1 club Nantes.
Simon joined Nantes permanently from Spanish club Levante in 2020, having previously been on a one-year loan at the club. Since then, the 29-year-old has been impressive, scoring 35 goals and providing 39 assists in 190 appearances for the Yellow Canaries.
This season, he has been a key player for Nantes, contributing six goals and seven assists in 21 matches. In fact, Simon has been involved in nearly half of their goals in Ligue 1, with Nantes scoring 28 goals so far this season.
Aside from his football achievements, Simon has also celebrated personal milestones, recently welcoming his third child with his wife.
According to a report from Tribune Nantaise, Simon has begun the process of applying for French citizenship. Under French law, he is eligible to apply after living in the country for five years.
Will Moses Simon stop playing for Nigeria if he becomes a French citizen? Moses Simon has made 72 appearances for Nigeria, and gaining French citizenship will not affect his international career.
Under FIFA rules, since he already has caps for Nigeria, he cannot play for another country. So, even if Simon becomes a French citizen, he will remain eligible to represent Nigeria. As one of the top wingers for the Super Eagles, he will continue to be an important player for coach Eric Chelle.
