Enzo Fernandez scored as Chelsea secured an important win over Tottenham, moving into the Premier League’s top four and boosting their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
For Spurs, the defeat increases the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou, with his side remaining in 14th place and at risk of finishing outside the top 10 for the first time since 2008.
Chelsea Dominate but Face Early Frustration
With Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson returning from injury, Chelsea controlled the game at Stamford Bridge but struggled to find the net in the first half despite creating plenty of chances.
They continued their attacking momentum after the break and were finally rewarded in the 50th minute, when Fernandez headed in a perfect cross from Palmer.
VAR Drama Denies More Goals
Chelsea thought they had doubled their lead when Moises Caicedo fired a stunning volley past Guglielmo Vicario, but the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside after a lengthy four-minute VAR review.
Spurs also had a goal disallowed when substitute Pape Matar Sarr smashed in from 20 yards. However, after checking the pitchside monitor, referee Craig Pawson ruled it out for a foul, as Sarr caught Caicedo with his studs before shooting.
Chelsea Move Above Man City
The victory lifts Chelsea to fourth place, pushing Manchester City down to fifth and Newcastle to sixth in the league table.
