Rinsola Babajide Reacts To First Goal for Nigeria After Dream WAFCON Debut
Rinsola Babajide has shared her joy after scoring her first international goal for Nigeria in the Super Falcons’ 3–0 win over Tunisia at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Taking to her X handle on Monday, July 7, 2025, the 27-year-old winger posted:
“A dream start and debut! Over the moon to have scored my first international goal for my country WHAT A FEELING!!! Thank you God for giving us this day ”
Babajide was one of the standout performers in Nigeria’s opening Group C match at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca on Sunday. She provided the assist for Asisat Oshoala’s opening goal and later scored just before halftime to double Nigeria’s lead.
The UDG Tenerife star celebrated her goal with Diogo Jota’s signature move, paying tribute to the former Liverpool forward who passed away in a car accident just days earlier. Babajide, who played for Liverpool between 2018 and 2022, wore the same number 20 shirt Jota made famous at Anfield.
Chiwendu Ihezuo sealed the win in the 80th minute with a calm finish, ensuring the Super Falcons began their WAFCON title campaign in strong fashion.
Babajide’s goal and assist came in her debut appearance at a major tournament for Nigeria, making the moment even more special.
With Botswana next on Wednesday, Babajide and the rest of the squad will be hoping to continue their strong form as Nigeria aims for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
Rinsola Babajide was born in England and previously represented England at youth level before switching to Nigeria. She made her senior debut for the Super Falcons in October 2023.
