NNL Super 8: Wikki Tourists and Barau FC To Push Promotion Race To The Wire

The Northern Conference of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Eight remains wide open after Wikki Tourists and Barau FC played out a goalless draw at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Monday afternoon.
It was a cagey match, with both sides cancelling each other out. While Wikki Tourists, led by veteran coach Abdul Maikaba, looked slightly more dangerous going forward, they could not find a way past a well-organised Barau FC side making their debut in the Super Eight playoffs.
Both teams had half chances but lacked the final touch, and in the end, the draw was a fair result.
Northern Conference Standings After Matchday 2:
- Yobe Desert Stars – 4 points
- Barau FC – 2 points
- Wikki Tourists – 2 points
- Doma United – 1 point
Earlier in the day, Yobe Desert Stars came from behind to beat Doma United 2-1, with Umar Idris scoring the winner in the 85th minute. That result gave Yobe top spot in the group and left Doma bottom with just one point.
Final Day Fixtures – Northern Conference:
- Yobe Desert Stars vs Wikki Tourists
- Barau FC vs Doma United
With only the top two teams set to gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), all four clubs still have a chance to go through. A win for any side on the final day could be enough, depending on the outcome of the other match.
The stage is now set for a thrilling finish to the group, as promotion hopes hang in the balance.
