Rice Gets Jail Time After High-Speed Crash

Kansas City Chiefs player Rashee Rice has been given jail time after a serious car crash earlier this year, SportsRation reports.

On Thursday, 17 July, a court in Dallas County made it clear that being famous doesn’t mean you can avoid the law.

The 25-year-old NFL player, who helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl in 2023, admitted guilt in a crash that happened on 30 March 2024. He pleaded guilty to two serious crimes: racing on a public road and causing injury in a crash.

According to the Associated Press, Rice was sentenced to five years of deferred probation, 30 days in jail, and must pay over $115,000 (around £88,000) to his victims.

What Happened?

Video footage showed Rice driving a Lamborghini Urus at around 119 miles per hour. He was driving dangerously and caused a crash involving several vehicles.

Two people had to be taken to hospital.

Shockingly, Rice ran away from the scene instead of helping. This led to heavy criticism from Dallas District Attorney John Creuzot, who said, “A car in the wrong hands can be as dangerous as any weapon.”

He also said Rice was “lucky to walk away without injury.”

Rice Apologises, NFL May Still Punish Him

Rice’s lawyers described the incident as a mistake by a young man. The plea deal gives him a chance to avoid a criminal record if he stays out of trouble for five years and completes 60 hours of community service.

In a statement, Rice said:

“I am deeply sorry for the damage and pain I caused. I truly apologise to the people and families affected by my actions.”

However, the NFL is still reviewing the case and may punish him separately. Many believe he will be suspended for several games under the league’s personal conduct rules.
