Super Falcons Visit Injured South African Player Gabriela Salgado in Hospital

Some players from Nigeria’s Super Falcons have visited Gabriela Salgado, a South African footballer, at Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca after she suffered a serious injury during the WAFCON semi-final match on Tuesday.
Salgado had to be stretched off the pitch late in the second half of South Africa’s 2-1 loss to Nigeria. The 27-year-old broke the middle part of her left leg and had successful surgery on Wednesday.
She is still in hospital and is expected to miss the rest of the year as she recovers.
A Kind Gesture from the Super Falcons
In a show of kindness and respect, a few Nigerian players visited Salgado in person, gave her encouraging words, and handed her a Super Falcons jersey signed by the whole team.
“We were all very sad to hear about Gabriela Salgado’s injury,” said a statement from the Nigerian team.
“We are thinking of her, her teammates, and her loved ones. We wish her strength and a full recovery.”
The team added that, at times like this, the competitive side of football doesn’t matter, and it’s more important to show care and unity:
“We stand by South Africa’s team, Banyana Banyana, during this time.”
Support from Across Africa
South Africa’s team doctor, Lindi Mokoena, confirmed that Salgado’s surgery went well and thanked the CAF and hospital staff for their excellent care.
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa also sent his support, calling Salgado “a brave and talented woman” and wishing her a strong recovery.
