Ghana Beat South Africa on Penalties to Win WAFCON Bronze

Ghana have claimed third place at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco after beating South Africa on penalties.
The match was a rematch of their earlier group stage clash, which South Africa (Banyana Banyana) had won 2-0.
This time, the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Nonhlanhla Mthandi gave South Africa the lead in the first half after taking advantage of a mistake in Ghana’s defence to score into an empty net.
But Ghana’s Black Queens levelled the match in the second half when South African goalkeeper Andile Dlamini accidentally scored an own goal.
With no extra time played in the third-place match, the game went straight to penalty shootout.
Ghana won after S. Holweni and H. Magaia missed their spot-kicks for South Africa.
