Morocco Asks CAF to Suspend Referee After WAFCON Final Penalty Decision

The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has asked the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to suspend the referee, Antsino Twanyanyukwa from Namibia. They say she made a wrong call by not giving Morocco a penalty in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against Nigeria.

Morocco says the referee made unfair decisions that changed the outcome of the game.

In the 82nd minute, the score was tied 2-2. The referee first gave Morocco a penalty because she thought Nigeria’s player, Oluwatosin Demehin, handled the ball. But after checking with Video Assistant Referee (VAR), she changed her mind. The VAR showed that Demehin’s arm was close to her body, so it was not a handball.
