CHAN 2024: Chelle Urges Super Eagles B to Play with Pride Against Congo

Nigeria’s Super Eagles B will play their final Group D match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Congo’s Red Devils on Tuesday, 19 August, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Tanzania.
Coach Eric Chelle’s side has endured a poor campaign, losing 1-0 to defending champions Senegal in their opening game before suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat to Sudan. The results confirmed Nigeria’s early exit from the tournament, as they remain without a point or a goal.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Chelle admitted the disappointment but urged his players to finish on a positive note.
“For this game tomorrow, there will be some changes because we lost two games and need to improve,” Chelle said. “We made too many mistakes and conceded five goals. Mentally it has been difficult, but we must play with pride and return to Nigeria with something to hold on to.”
The coach emphasised the need for a strong mentality and focus.
“Tomorrow is a chance to forget our mistakes. I am waiting to see how my players start, how they finish, and how they respond mentally. When you are a professional, you must stay focused, want to win, and show the right state of mind,” he added.
With only pride left at stake, Chelle has challenged his team to give a spirited performance and show their qualities despite their elimination.
