Flying Eagles Goalkeeper Clinton Ezekiel Reacts to First Start

Flying Eagles goalkeeper Clinton Ezekiel has expressed his delight after making his first start for Nigeria’s U20 team in their 3-1 win over Australia.

Ezekiel, who plays for Bayelsa United, shared his excitement on social media on Wednesday.

“Yesterday, I got the opportunity to make my debut for the Flying Eagles in our 3-1 win against Australia U-20s, a milestone in my journey that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I’m thankful to my coaches, teammates and family for their support. First of many,” he wrote.

Nigeria wrapped up their preparations for the FIFA U20 World Cup with the victory in Santiago, Chile. Tahir Maigana opened the scoring before Achihi Oseer doubled the lead. Australia reduced the deficit before the break, but Charles Agada struck late to secure the win for Aliyu Zubairu’s team.

The result follows a 1-1 draw against hosts Chile last week and leaves the Flying Eagles in good spirits ahead of the tournament.

Nigeria, who finished as runners-up in 2005, are in Group F alongside Norway, Saudi Arabia and Colombia. They will begin their campaign against Norway on Monday in Talca.

Australia are in Group D, where they will face Argentina, Italy and Cuba.
