Kano Pillars Reappoint Mohammed Babaganaru as Acting Technical Adviser

Kano Pillars have confirmed the appointment of Mohammed Babaganaru as Acting Technical Adviser, marking his third spell in charge of the club.
The announcement comes less than 24 hours after Pillars suffered a 2-1 derby defeat to newly promoted Barau FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium — a result that leaves the Sai Masu Gida with just two wins, two draws, and four losses from eight matches in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Following the loss, Technical Adviser Ogenyi Evans and Chief Coach Ahmed Garba Yaro Yaro were suspended by the club.
Babaganaru, who guided Pillars to back-to-back NPFL titles in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons, returns to Kano looking to revive their campaign. He last managed Akwa United, where he was unable to prevent the club from relegation last season.
During his time in Uyo, Babaganaru oversaw 27 matches, recording 10 wins, four draws, and 13 defeats before resigning on 10 December 2024 after a 1-1 draw with Bendel Insurance. His successor, Kennedy Boboye, was also unable to save the Promise Keepers from the drop.
Both coaches have since returned to the NPFL — Boboye recently joined Bendel Insurance as head coach, while Babaganaru has now been recalled by Pillars to steady their season.
After leaving Akwa United, Babaganaru had a brief stint at Lobi Stars, but his spell there also ended in disappointment, with the Benue club relegated after losing all three matches under his charge.
Despite these setbacks, Kano Pillars’ management expressed confidence in the veteran coach’s experience and deep understanding of the club.
“We wish Coach Babaganaru success in his new role as he leads the Sai Masu Gida in upcoming fixtures,” the club’s Media and Communications Directorate said in a statement.
Babaganaru is expected to resume duties immediately as Pillars prepare for their next NPFL match.
