DONE DEAL: Flying Eagles Coach Aliyu Zubair Joins Egyptian Club Telecom SC

Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubair, has been appointed as the new manager of Egyptian second division side, Telecom Egypt SC.
Zubair, who recently led Nigeria’s U20 team to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, was officially unveiled by the club’s management at their headquarters in Cairo. The 46-year-old signed a two-year contract with the ambitious Egyptian outfit.
He is well known for promoting Gombe United in 2021 and Elkanemi Warriors in 2024 to the Nigeria Premier Football League from the second tier.
Zubair also guided Elkanemi Warriors to win the 2024 President Federation Cup — Nigeria’s oldest football competition — a feat he had previously achieved as an assistant coach with Akwa United in 2017.
At the national level, the Kwara-born tactician led the Flying Eagles to victory in the 2024 WAFU-B Championship and helped them qualify for the World Cup after finishing third at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Telecom Egypt, who are targeting promotion to the top-flight league, described Zubair as the ideal choice for the job, praising his strong work ethic, tactical discipline, and success in developing young players.
The Nigerian coach will be joined in Egypt by his assistant from the Flying Eagles, Lukman Ijaiya
