Abraham and a club official, Jabir Hassan, were assaulted moments after Barau FC’s 69th-minute equaliser through Orji Kalu, which led to a violent disruption of the NPFL Matchday 12 fixture.

The Barau FC medical team, led by Sani Idris, provided immediate treatment to all injured individuals, including Abraham, Hassan, and some supporters.

Speaking to the club’s media department on Sunday morning, Abraham expressed gratitude for the swift medical attention and reassured fans of his recovery.

“Thank God I am feeling better right now. Actually, our medical team did their best in treating my injuries,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate what happened. Football is not a war — you can either win, draw, or lose. We’ve played five home games, won one, drawn three, and lost one, nothing happened. So why should we be attacked here?”

The match was stopped for nearly ten minutes as security operatives restored order before play eventually resumed and ended in a 1–1 draw.

Following the incident, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fined Katsina United ₦9 million and ordered them to play all remaining home matches behind closed doors at a neutral venue in Jos.

The NPFL condemned the club’s failure to provide adequate security and control its supporters, describing their actions as bringing the game into disrepute. Katsina United have 48 hours to appeal the sanctions.
